The
competition was announced, and the challenge set –
recreate your favourite Asian movie scenes using photography
with no digital trickery. We awaited the results
of your creativity with baited breath. And we waited,
and waited…Nothing happened. Then suddenly at
the last minute they came flooding in, and we were
witness to some of the most entertaining use of a
camera since Pamela Anderson got into home movie making.
It
seemed appropriate that such artistic and creative
efforts receive the critical acclaim that they deserve,
so we asked respected, yet infamously pretentious
art critic Sir Charles Canopy-Lallywad to cast his
eye over them. His views have nothing to do with KFCC
or the competition results, and you are assured that
the pompous old codger won’t be back.
So,
our FIRST PRIZE winner, walking away with 2 DVD edition
of ‘Hero’ and a 2 DVD edition of ‘Infernal
Affairs’ is the two man tag-team of Dominic
Hudson and Alexis. Recreating ‘The Foul King’,
they’ll probably be fighting each other to the
death over those prizes as we speak.

-1st
Place : 2 DVD edition of ‘Hero’
and a 2 DVD edition of ‘Infernal Affairs!
Dominic Hudon & Alexis
Sir
Charles says:
‘'Ah! Wonderful! Working as a post-modern collage
of pop-cultural mindpuke, this recreates the most
famous of images from ‘The Foul King’.
The chap in the background appears on the surface
to allude to Munch’s ‘The Scream’,
yet on further examination, is actually a tribute
to Beavis’ ‘Cornolio’. Utilising
what appears to be a chicken fillet, this piece reportedly
made shovel faced artist Tracy Emin shit pottery.'
Then
in second place is this worrying effort from Bill
Roberts aka ‘Bloodyknows’. It’s
a scene from the Miike movie ‘Dead Or Alive’,
which has earned Bill the choice of either a ‘Hero’
or ‘Infernal Affairs’ DVD.
-2nd
Place : Choice of the winner: 2 DVD edition
of ‘Hero’ or 2 DVD edition of ‘Infernal
Affairs
Bill
Roberts aka
‘Bloodyknows’
Sir
Charles says:
‘When Bill asks what one thinks of his ‘entry’,
one should be cautious. Like a convicted paedophile
dancing for pie, Bill’s work has a certain ‘pomme
de terre’ about it. We, the audience, are given
a stark moral choice – does one throw oneself
upon this with nihilistic abandon, or inform a parent
or guardian?’
The entries varied from the insanely cool to the downright
dire, but when it came to our judges voting, the humor
in those two entries warmed some hearts. Now without
further ado, put your spectacles on and stroke your
chin in an studious manner, as we join Sir Charles through
the art gallery of your minds. That’s your minds,
not ours. We take no responsibility.
Adam Milicevic (Dynamo
Robo)
‘Body Jumper’
'Making beautiful use of composition,
yet minimum use of a flash, Adam’s work speaks
volumes about scoring with chicks whilst wearing borrowed
spectacles.'
James Bryant
(JamesB)
‘Rumble In The Bronx’
'Recreating the DVD cover pose
of Jackie Chan, James provides his own creative twist
to a classic. Is it martial arts, or is he shouting
“Stop right there, for I have caught a bee!'
Judy and Scott Winters
(Operationpinksquad)
‘Hard Boiled’
‘My God, I hope that’s
Scott!’
Jered Davis (Sanjuro)
‘Yojimbo’
'I asked the acclaimed singer/songwriter
Elton John for his thoughts on this rather interesting
work, but rather wished I hadn’t when I became
drowsy and woke up the next morning covered in chives
and gentlemen’s relish. But I digress, this
exquisite semblance speaks volumes. Despite having
no arms, Mr. Davis has still managed to hijack the
clothes of a Samurai by distracting him with his impeccable
complexion. Observing the finer details, one notices
that the Samurai still abides deep within the folds
of clothing, reaching out to admire and caress Jered’s
finely moisturised chin.'
Karl Lee (100% Yangachi
Powered)
‘Attack The Gas Station’
'It brings tears to one’s
eyes that in this modern age, the young still find
time to play with sticks and saucepans. The artist
told the judges ‘I couldn’t find a fisherman’s
type hat, so I just used a pot’. Maybe this
is why we should all use a little pot. One cannot
help but conjure up a terrifying vision of the future,
where man is forced from his own kitchen, because
the internet has infested the pantry with thousands
of these little fellows.'
