Story: Cat is an ex-cop from New York, he was betrayed by his partner and went to prison. He now lives in Hong Kong and he is one of the best contract killers. He falls in love with a woman who lives in an apartment across the street but she turns out to be a cop. Cat decides to quit his job as a killer but when his ex partner resurfaces he has no choice but to take revenge.

Review: This is a Romance / Action movie, that might and odd mixture for a movie. The use of romance in the storyline somewhat cuts into the action genre of the movie. One thing that is really nice in this movie is the scenery and setting with the different use of dark colors. This movie could be considered a little artistic. The story line is not too complicated but you will have to pay attention to the relations between characters.

Unlike most action movies you have some pretty complex characters, the main characters has a heavy background and he goes through a psychological development during the movie. With love and betrayal as the guiding emotions you see what Cat goes through. There is some development on the part of the secondary character. The rest of the characters are merely decoration and cause for the story. Also the acting on the part of Donnie Yen is quite good.

There is quite a bit of action in this movie but be prepared for something a little different than the run of the mill. A very artistic edge was taken for all the scenes. The use of the decor and colors made the fight scenes far more dramatic, also with the use fancy unrealistic gun fighting it left the action scenes very appealing to watch. As nice as these action scenes were they tended to be very artistic and there might be those who wont like the strange style. The one thing that dragged the movie down was the Romance half of it, the movie was split into two in a sense. It kept going back and fort from action to romance, these two almost seemed like 2 different movies. This made the movie a little long for us as we were expecting some high action during the entire film.

The subtitles were clear and nice as usual on a DVD version but the main problem in certain times in the film there is a lot of text and the subtitles went a little too fast to read. This movie was an interesting attempt at creating something different, this is the second movie directed by Donnie Yen that we saw. Donnie seems to like to experiment with the action genre and try to make the story more important, especially on the part of the love story. He certainly had some great ideas in Ballistic Kiss especially for the look and feel of the movie. But in the end we were a little disappointed as we were hopping for a dark action movie. None the less this movie has some great points to it and if anyone appreciates some romance mixed into their action I am sure they will find this movie interesting.

DVD [ NTSC, All Region ] :

The picture quality was average, you really saw the quality drop during the dark scenes. The sound was a stereo 2.0. The DVD contained the following extras : Chapter Section, Star`s Files and Trailers (Ballistic Kiss, Enter the Eagle, Cheap Killers).
