enemy.
Review: Before any of you worry Conman in
Tokyo is a stand alone movie thus no need to see any
other conman movies. This movie has a rich blend of
action and comedy that would leave just about anyone
entertained. The story in the movie is also well developed
and should keep you interested in what is happening,
you will have very little difficulty following this
movie.
The movie is focused on two main characters, the
gambling duo of Cool and Jersy. Other important characters
are the girlfriends of Cool and Jersy but they are
more for support. Then you have the villains, Tetsuo
the top Japanese gambler and Cool partner who betrayed
him. All of these characters are really vibrant and
full of life, they add a lot to the movie and the
story. The two main characters are especially great
and make an excellent team in this movie.
Action and comedy can be a really powerful combination
when it is done right. This movie may not have the
action level of a pure action movie but they have
enough to keep the story high paced. Then you have
the comedy that can be found through the entire movie,
out of all the Chinese movies this movie had the most
understandable comedy but still the cultural references
might loose inexperienced viewers. Also some people
might find Nick Cheung (Jersy) annoying because of
his humor similar to the popular HK actor Jackie Cheung,
we personally had no problem with him. The story is
interesting and coherent, its nice having comedy and
action but without a good story its not as enjoyable.
One thing that needs be mentioned is this movie has
some nice visual effects, such as the flying cards
that kill people and good fighting scenes. There is
a lot of small details in the movie that are pretty
cool to see and add that little extra to the scenes.
The subtitles are clear on the DVD version but they
scroll by pretty fast, you will have to keep a close
eye on the dialog or you will miss some of it. Conman
in Tokyo is a great movie, we really enjoyed it. The
movie has a lot of great things going for it so a
lot of people could find this one enjoyable. Most
HK action and comedy movie fans should enjoy this
movie.

DVD
[ NTSC, All Region
] :
Excellent image quality(LTB), very impressive. The
transfer as sharp and clean. For the sound you have
a great Surround Sound 5.1 As for the extras you only
have the chapter selection and the official traler.
Also the menues are in Chinese, but the DVD only contains
the usual section so you wont be too lost. This is
an excellent DVD for an HK release, we strongly recommend
to watch this movie on DVD, since the movie contains
a lot of great visual effects.
