Story:
Someone is out to kill Mr. Lung, an influential business
man. In order to protect Mr. Lung his brother hires
five men with various specialties : Curtis, Roy, Shin,
James and Mike. They will work together to protect Mr.
Lung and to kill whoever is behind the attempt on his
life. Over the course of the mission they will build
a close friendship that will be tested at some point
during the mission.
Review: The mission is a recent action movie
from Johnny To, it is about 5 men that must protect
a rich business man. There is action and there is
suspense and then there is friendship, a very good
mixture to make an interesting setting. The story
is very interesting aswell, it was pretty original
and fun to follow.
Quite the cast was put together for this movie and
their performance was as good as you can expect. One
of the important elements in this movie is the characters
relationships, part of the story is about the friendships
that form between these cold blooded bodyguard types.
The chemistry between the characters is great. If
it was not for the performance of these actors, the
movie might not have been as good as it was. You will
certainly find yourself being attached to the characters
in this film.
This is an action movie but it is a slow paced action,
not slow paced as in boring but as calm and calculated.
The events slowly build up to the action scenes and
when the action starts the bodyguards act carefully
and well organized. Watching the action is like watching
a SDU team take out the bad guys, its very intense,
slow but jam packed with feeling. Johnny To is reputed
to being a visionary when it comes to action movies,
you will find The Mission to be very interesting.
The subtitles are clear on the DVD version but you
might find the dialog moving too fast on screen from
time to time, but most of the time the dialog is simple
enough. The Mission is an interesting movie as it
seems like a very laid back film yet it has quite
the impact. The impact is not only in terms of action
but all elements in this movie, you have some really
interesting characters and a very good setting and
story to tie everything together. This is a well thought
out movie and it was very enjoyable to watch. Any
fans of serious HK action will find this movie interesting,
mostly the Johnny To fans.

DVD
[ NTSC, All Region ]
:
(remastered) The image quality (LTB) is decent but
for the first half of the movie it looks like some
image burnt onto the screen and you can notice it
from time to time. The sounds was a good surround
5.1, the DVD comes with the following extras : Chapter
Selection, Official Trailer, Cast and Crew info, Additiona
Trailer of The Victim. For a movie like this it deserve
a far better quality than it received but still its
better than VCD.
