Story: A failure of a Triad who is desperate for money decides to accept an assassination mission. With his advance in money he decides to risk it in gambling, he becomes lucky and wins a fortune. With all this money he is not so sure that he wishes to do the murder anymore, he looks for a hitman to take his place. He finds a women willing to take the job but she ends up more trouble than he expected. He ends up falling in love with her and he is not sure about sending her to kill or to do the job himself and take the risk. During the next few days they will prepare to make the hit.

Review: This is a movie in the Triad genre, the story revolves around the dark criminal world. Johnny To is famous for his Triad movies and this is one of numerous films of the type he has made. The story is about desperation, when someone looses everything they are willing to risk their lives to get something back. The story is basic and follows around the anti-hero trying to survive in the world.

There are few characters, most of the attention is placed on the anti-hero assassin and the girl who he hires. There is a lot of emotional character development, most of it is hard to understand. The rest of the characters in the movie are only background and serves as props for the development of the 2 main characters. These 2 are strange to say the least and seem to have a lot of unresolved issues, their confusion and desperation is well acted.

This film may be in the Triad genre but it is not the same level of action as other films of its type. There may be a few tense scenes but nothing more, everything in the films happens for a reason, you can almost say there is real life realism in it. The entertainment factor in this film is the story and what happens to the 2 main characters. This is basically a Drama set in the Triad environment.

The subtitles were good, also there was not so much dialog. This was one of Johnny To's quieter movies, it showed the triad life in a different light. Not that of a glamorous rascal but one that is dark and cruel, where you must fight to survive. It was in our opinion a realistic portrayal of events if someone was really in that situation. Keep in mind that this is not a movie full of flying bullets and explosions, but for a fan of the triad genre that likes more than just action this film would be well suited.
