Story:
Jimmy Yam is the kingpin of the Triad underworld, he
is informed by the police that there is someone trying
to assassinate him. Not long after, an attempt is made
on Mr. Yam's life by a sniper. After a narrow escape,
he becomes obsessed with finding the one responsible
for the assassination attempt. Following a meeting with
other triad bosses where no one really seemed the least
interested about the assassination attempt, Mr. Yam
started to wonder about things, he started to see everyone
around him in a different light. Meanwhile the assassin
is still out there and waiting.
Review: Triad Zone pretty much falls into
the triad category of movie but this triad movie is
probably unlike any that have been seen yet. Some
parts of this movie is serious while others are out
of place and very funny. Some things can be considered
a comical and satirical view of Triad life. The story
was simple and it was well told, expect to be surprised
with a couple things that will happen during the story.
There were quite a few characters in this movie,
while most of the focus was on the triad boss there
were other characters that played important roles
during the movie. A good job was done in the appearance
of these various characters because confusion and
unanswered questions were kept at a minimum. You quickly
knew who was who so you have more attention to give
to the actual story. Some of the characters were pretty
interesting but none really stood out as incredible,
the acting was very good. You also had a couple of
cameo appearances by some well-known actors, wait
till you see Antony Wong.
For a Triad movie, the level of action was kept
to a minimum. The movie was more focused on the political
aspect of triad life and the life of the Triad Boss.
Don't not worry the movie is not just all talk, there
are a couple gun fights spread out during the movie
and a longer one at the end. During the movie you
have the easy to follow story that keeps you entertained
with surprising humor and satire. The movie is well
rounded, entertaining and also got a very good visual
aspect.
The subtitles were very good on the DVD version,
there is quite a bit of dialog but it is not too difficult
to follow. This movie certainly surprised us, as it
is not typical in what you would expect from a Triad
movie. The movie is certainly not to be taken seriously
as the average Triad movie. With the elements of life
story and comedy in the movie mixed the other things
it's a little hard to really define it. To simply
say it, this movie is something different. The soundtrack
was also quite good, we rarely talk about the soundtrack
but guess it stuck out enough that we remembered it.
We strongly recommend this movie to fans of triads
movie as you will find it quite interesting.

DVD
[ NTSC, All Region ]
:
This DVD had the best image quality (LTB) that we
had ever seen on a Mei Ah release! The image was as
good as on Univers DVDs. The sound was a surround
5.1 which was very good. The extras include : Chapter
Selection, Cast and Crew, Synopsis and extra trailers
(A War Named Desire and U-571). If you enjoyed this
movie the DVD is a pretty good choice.
