Story:
Mountain Leopard has been living in Brazil for the last
30 years, he left Hong Kong in exile after a fight with
his bitter rival Nine Dragons. With a gun and a bag
full of money Mountain Leopard returns to Hong Kong
to finish the fight with his rival. Not long after arriving
Mountain Leopard meets a young triad named smoky, Mountain
Leopard hires him to help him find and kill Nine Dragons.
Mountain Leopard is also looking for the woman that
he loves and lost 30 years ago.
Review: Take note that Metade Fumaka is a
drama orientated movie in a triad genre. The focus
of this movie is mostly on the story and the characters
and is not really on action. You can expect a good
story with well developed characters, the flow of
the movie is smooth and you won't really find any
boring moments. The movie is generally on the slower
drama pace due to the lack of any real action or comedy.
You have a couple really well developed characters
in this movie, in fact the characters are a very important
part of this movie. As mentioned above character interaction
and development play a very important role in this
movie. Along with the main story line there are underlying
themes that the characters will play out. Then there
is the development of the characters, especially with
Mountain Leopard character (Eric Tsang) where you
see a very well defined development from the initial
rise of the character and to the fall. Smoky (Nicholas
Tse) as well has an interesting development during
the course of the movie. Basically a lot of attention
is put on the relation between these characters. An
excellent performance in general from the actors Tsang
and Tse.
Action wise Metade Fumaka is a little quiet, it
is not completely devoid of action but it movie is
not an action movie its about telling a story. The
entertainment factor in this movie is the strong characters
and meaningful story line. If you are more orientated
towards the action type of movies you will find this
one less interesting but if you enjoy a good drama
type movie then this should be interesting.
The subtitles are great on the DVD version, you will
have a fair amount of text to read but for the most
part it is easy to follow. We had some divided opinions
on this movie here at KFC, some of us liked it while
others found it less interesting. The reason for that
is the action factor, we generally focus more on the
action orientated films and this one was a little
different. It is mainly a drama movie and in its own
sense it was high action but that is in story and
other factors. The overall opinion of this movie is
that it was quite good but it is something that some
people will simply find boring. So final note on the
film, if you don't like Drama avoid this movie.

DVD
[ NTSC, All Region
] :
The image (LTB) was excellent like other releases
from Megastar, the sound was only a Dolby Digital
2.0 (Cantonese and Mandarin), the audio was mandarin
by default. The DVD contained the following extras:
Chapter Selection, 2 trailers of the movie (Official
Movie Trailer, MTV movie trailer). If you enjoyed
the movie the DVD would be a decent buy.
