Story:
Kai having murdered 3 people in Hong Kong escapes to
South Africa, 10 years later he is still working at
the same Chinese where the boss know of his crime and
is giving him a place to hide. One day Kai goes with
his boss to go buy pigs from an African tribe, they
notice lots of dead people that had died a terrible
way. One the way back to the city Kai crashes the truck,
while his boss is trying to fix it Kai wanders off.
He finds a sick African woman and decides to rape her,
a day later Kai gets a heavy fever. A doctor says there
is one in 10 million that is unaffected by the Ebola
virus and become carriers.
Review: This is a gruesome Hong Kong horror
in the style of the Untold Story or Dr. Lamb. This
is not the traditional horror as you will expect but
rather a gruesome murder thriller. Most horror movies
from Hong Kong are not that scary but when they have
a movie dealing with serial killer type murder they
go all the way. This movie is intended for a mature
audience (CAT.III) as it is quite bloody even if the
VCD is not the un-cut version. The story behind this
movie is a great idea, it is straight forward and
easy to follow.
Anthony Wong plays an incredible performance in
this movie, the story revolves around his character
Kai. He brings out a disgusting nature for the character
that is incredibly convincing. Kai can easily be considered
one of the best sleazy, filthy and disgusting characters
we have ever seen. Unfortunately there isn't any background
for the character other than the first 5 minutes of
the movie, the development is low on the part of the
character. There are no other remarkable characters
in the movie, well other than the girl that feels
sick each time she is near Kai (she only stick out
because of the silly way she finds Kai).
Alright if your planning to watch this we hope you
have a strong stomach, you got what a bit of blood
and gore. We made the mistake of munching on snacks
while watching this one. Also as mentioned this movie
has some very mature content such as rape and murder,
nothing is sacred in this movie and the main character
goes pretty low. I guess it is in a movie like this
were you see the difference of limits between Hollywood
and Hong Kong cinema. This movie would have never
been made in Hollywood let alone be shown in North
American theaters. The shock factor is very high in
this movie. We wont say any more concerning the action
in this movie but Kai is going to some crazy and sick
stuff.
The subtitles were alright on the VCD version but
they were a little small, also there is the occasional
white on white. During some parts of the movie it
is a little hard to follow the dialog. This movie
is probably the first we reviewed in the gruesome
genre, we have seen movies like Untold Story and Dr.
Lamb, we can easily say this movie is in the same
category. The use of the Ebola Virus in the story
was brilliant, the way the movie was put together
this is something that could be possible. They played
with the what if possibility of a terrible virus like
that carried around by someone who was not affected
by it. We simply loved this movie, both for its shock
value and for this great story and character. Anyone
who is not scared of gore we strongly recommend that
you take a look at this movie.
