Story: Mousy (Yuen Biao) is a coward but his friend, who is a student of the legendary Wong Fei Hung, tries to help him out. He goes as so far as to get people believe Mousy is Fei Hung. Meanwhile there is a masked killer roaming the streets of town and the police are looking for this man. Mousy is eventually accepted as a student of Wong Fei Hung but gets into some trouble with the mysterious murderer who is hiding with the opera troop.

Review: Dreadnaught is an old style kung fu movie, the movie portrays another incarnation of the Wong Fei-Hung character. Wong Fei Hung is a doctor and martial arts specialist that existed and many movies have used him as a character. The story is about a coward who eventually becomes somebody who falls into the path of a mysterious masked killer, it is very simple and entertaining.

Like in most old style kung fu movies the characters are very likable, there are a couple important characters in this movie but none of them really stuck out as the main character. The characters are pretty stereotyped as in most old style kung fu movies but they are great none the less, it is exactly what you come to expect when you watch these old movies. One thing to mention, the main character Mousy (Yuen Biao) did not seem present enough. There were times where he seemed more like a secondary character.

For a Kung Fu movie there is not as much action as we would have liked to have seen. There are many small scenes during the course of the movie that are beautifully choreographed but they are simply too short. At the end of the movie you have one large fight that is equally incredible. The martial arts used in this movie are of the realistic style, it is a pity that there isn't more of it. The movie may be lacking kung fu but the charming story wont bore you while Mousy`s cowardly antics will keep you smiling.

The subtitles are great on this DVD and the dialog is easy to follow. This was a pretty old movie that we have heard about and seemed to be quite good, it was old style kung fu which we enjoy very much. The movie was great the only thing we did not like about it was the lack of the kung fu fighting. From what we saw of the little fights it just left us hanging for more. Don't worry this is still a very enjoyable movie, we found it good but we wanted more Kung Fu that is all. This movie is great for old style kung fu fans or martial arts fans in general.

DVD [ NTSC, All Region ] :

The image quality (LTB) was very decent for such an old movie, there was also a very good Surround Sound 5.1. The menues were very nice on this DVD, the following extra can be found on the DVD : Chapters Selection, Cast and info, Official Trailer, 4 additional trailers (Iceman Cometh, Zu : Warriors from the magic mountain, Knockabout, Eastern Condors). If you like this old movie this is probably the best way to own it as the quality is very nice.
