Story: Chinese ghost story II is a fantasy tale of ghosts and demons. It all begins when Ning escapes from prison, he seeks shelter in an abandoned manor. He encounters a monk and a group of rebels who mistake Ning as the wise elder Chew, the leader of the rebel looks like Sian from Chinese Ghost Story I and Ning believe it is her reincarnation. The rebels are seeking to free their father who is going to be executed by the emperor, they ask Ning for his wisdom to aid them. During the night they do battle with an evil ghost that was mistakenly freed by Ning. In the course of the battle they encounter the emperors soldiers escorting the prisoner. After a long battle they manage to stop the soldier and the evil ghost, the commander of the soldiers decides to join the rebels because he believes the prisoner is innocent. The emperors advisor and chief monk comes to see them and steals the prisoner away, Ning uncovers an evil plot and must save his friends

Review: We found the story to be very deep but with one major problem it was all thrown at the viewer too fast. The major events came one after another but that is not that uncommon for this kind of movie, it is a fantastic tale, is it not? There was a good focus on the main characters, there were only a few so they were very well developed to the point where you become attached to them and at any chance they might get hurt you'd worry for there safety. Another interesting thing about the story and the characters was the Ning's obsession with Sian, the concept of lost love in the middle of their chaotic situation.

The special effect were on the cheesy side but it is an old movie and it really does not effect the look, actually I think its the reason why this movie had that special look. The scenery was very dark, heavy on the shades blue, created an interesting atmosphere that went well with the film. Also the fight scenes were very nice, its the traditional use of magic and kung fu. The spells and swordplay are quite impressive.

This is a good sequel to the first one and also if you don't remember the first one you wont be that lost because in the beginning you have a few scenes of the love between Ning and Sian from the first movie. The subtitles were clear and easy to read. If you saw Chinese Ghost Story I then you'll probably enjoy this one for the same look and feel.
